I returned to Thomson Medical Centre Thursday morning at around 9am, wanting to do the birth registration for Darius. We have received the live birth certificate the night before, so all the documents are ready.
I was the first in line so the processing was pretty quick. Although Catherine and I had already decided his name and how to put his ‘dialect name’, I was still very nervous and worried I might make a mistake and affect Darius’ name for the many years ahead.
Fortunately, after repeated checking, everything appeared okay and viola!, Darius was pronounced officially as Chua Zhe Yu, Darius (蔡哲宇)! His name was only decided after repeated efforts by Cat (see Baby Names, Baby Names II and Baby Names III).
After the registration, I went up to Cat’s ward and she told me she had a bad last night; she was having several stomach spasms and diarrhoea. It became slightly better during noon time though.
However, her condition started to worsen again in mid-afternoon, and continued throughout the entire night. Our doctor was paged and we had two phone conversations with her. Medication such as muscle relaxant were given but apparently they were not very useful.
Therefore, she could not sleep at all the entire night, and I stayed in the ward with her, though I couldn’t battle the sleeping bugs at times and fell asleep on the floor several times.
This morning, Dr Adelina Wong came by and checked on Cat. She had arranged for a Gastroenterology specialist to come inspect her this afternoon, while she prescripted a muscle relaxation injection for Cat. We also requested a drip to be placed on her again as she has been difficulty eating and even drinking. Every sip of water she took would be burped back up, seemingly that she had a lot of wind in her stomach. She was also asked to take some abdominal x-rays. Obviously, she would not be able to be discharged from the hospital as planned today.
After taking the x-rays, the Gastroenterology specialist came by at around 3pm and inspected her. He could not come out with a conclusion except that she does indeed have a lot of stomach wind, reason unknown.
He recommended Cat to take a CT (computerised tomography) scan to have a thorough investigation on her condition. However, it can only be taken at the nearby Mount Alverna Hospital, and it would cost us 600 to 700 dollars. Nevertheless, Cat’s health comes first and we need to ensure she’s okay.
Right now, she’s scheduled to have transport fetching her to Mount Alverna to have her CT scan.

I hope Cat gets well soon. Will keep her in prayers.
I’m sure she will be very appreciative. Thanks.
