Nappy Rash Cream

7 08 2008

We mentioned that we were using disposable diapers all the time for Darius for about 6 days after I was discharged from hospital. As we were still getting used to taking care of him, we did not always apply the nappy rash barrier cream on him nor change him after every 3-4hours. Darius is also rather quiet when it comes to poo and urine. He does not alert us and could sit in his poo for hours til we change him.

After a few days, we remembered to apply the Drapolene cream given by TMC but alas! it was too late as nappy rash in the form of bumpy red dots started appearing on Darius’s buttocks and even the thigh area. Applying more of the Drapolene didn’t help at all to treat it.

Vincent surfed the net then and found forumners recommending ‘Desitin’ as an effective cream to treat nappy rash. He was able to get it from Guardian pharmacy.

As if by miracle, the rash disappeared after one day of applying. The cream smells good and is easy to apply for it glides on smoothly.

We’ve also since switched to using cloth diapers in the day after the nappy rash appeared and only disposable diapers at night (after 10pm) when he sleeps til early morning. Even during the night, we will change him at least once to make sure he does not wear the disposable diaper for more than 5hours. The barrier cream is also applied at each change of the diaper. For cloth diaper, the cream will hinder the absorbency of the cloth if it comes into contact, hence there is no need to apply when the cloth diaper is used.

So far, all has been good and he does not have any more rashes. I would recommend parents to use this product as it’s really effective!
